Notes from a weekend

Cold soba with dipping sauce, tofu, kabocha squash, barley tea. Mmmmmmm.
This is Birdie. I got to hang out with him a bit, too. He belongs to N. and has different color eyes, and his real name is really Major Tom.
I also made a peach basil crumble, rather at the last minute, when N. and I decided to bake at her house. It was incredibly easy and I used this recipe from Martha Stewart. It was a success. The only thing was that the dish was just a little too big. Next time, I’ll make it in a smaller, deeper dish so that I can layer more peaches in it.
We watched Fellini’s And The Ship Sails On at home, and also saw Moon. I liked both movies, for different reasons. Moon, however, was probably one of the best movies I’ve seen in the theater for a long time. In fact, it was shatteringly beautiful and clever.
Oooo do you recommend seeing Moon in the theatre or would it be okay to wait for it on video?
Alex: Absolutely, yes. It magnifies the emotion, and I think there are a lot of visual details that just wouldn’t look as cool on the small screen.
You liked moon? I must admit that I despised it. There were far too many holes in the plot for me to enjoy it. Sam Rockwell does give an amazing performance as usual though. I think that if they filled in the gaps I would have enjoyed it far more. There were also some really important facts that I believe were left out.
You N. and I need to get together and bake/cook something at the Hugo house before I leave! I made stir fry last night and it was FUCKING RAWSOME!!! WOOT!
I see what you mean about unanswered parts of the film, and I speculated on them a bit. Ultimately, I liked how open ended it was. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone here, but I felt having some things unanswered (about what happened before, why it happened, and what might happen after) meant I could put my own spin and opinion on it. Ultimately, the sci fi facts and details of the plot were irrelevant to me, because I was focused so much on the humanity and the moral of the story.
Oh T! Thank you for the head’s up on the crumble recipe. I made it last night with a friend (veganized it, easy as pie to do) and topped it with coconut milk ice cream. Holy GOD!!! Heaven in a bowl. I can’t stop thinking about it and I’m thinking about making another batch tonight.
Wow, those eyes are amazing! I was going through Yes and Yes’s blog roll and clicked over here. I’ve already read through a few pages of your posts but the “thrilled to be 30” post was the one that turned me into a subscriber. I like it here. =)
Rachel – Welcome! Thank you so much :) Get comfy, enjoy your stay, while I go poke around your site!

What’s new with you lady?
Oh, I know, I’m being a little quiet. I haven’t really had much to update on. Just sort of… puttering around. I am starting to come out of the slump, however. I’ve got ideas milling about for some projects I need to tackle, so I’m sure there’ll be more activity in August.
xo!
Cold soba noodles are one of my all time favorite meals! Yum!
